Overview

Mohana Bistro, nestled in the heart of Klang at Jalan Tengku Kelana, offers a vibrant culinary experience that caters to lovers of South Indian and Malay flavors. This modest yet bustling restaurant has quickly become a favorite for those seeking authentic and rich tastes, especially fans of banana leaf rice and flavorful rice dishes such as mutton fried rice and nasi lemak ayam.

The kitchen at Mohana Bistro is a symphony of spice and tradition. Signature dishes like their Chicken 65 stand out with perfectly marinated, juicy chicken cubes that retain a delicate springiness, enhanced by accompanying dips like thovayal that elevate the palate. Complementing this are homestyle curries such as mutton kuzhambu, which strikes a superb balance of richness and subtle heat. The variety of vegetable sides served alongside their banana leaf thali ensures a satisfying diversity in every meal.

Breakfast offerings embrace South Indian staples like uthappam with toppings ranging from onions to tomatoes, and soft, crispy thosai served with expertly crafted chutneys and vibrant chicken curry. While some breakfast items, for instance, the nasi lemak, occasionally miss their mark on delivering a fully infused coconut and pandan aroma, the overall breakfast experience remains hearty and flavorful. The inclusion of distinct drinks like the rich Bru coffee and unique Madras coffee offers a taste of tradition that coffee enthusiasts will appreciate.

Despite the small size of the bistro creating a lively, sometimes noisy atmosphere, it adds to the charm and authenticity of the dining experience. The space is often packed, exuding the energy of communal dining and friendly chatter, paired with a thoughtfully selected playlist that complements the vibrant mood. This environment suits diners who appreciate a spirited setting alongside attentive and fast service, as the staff consistently go above and beyond to ensure guest satisfaction.

While prices may lean toward the higher side, the quality, flavor complexity, and portion sizes provide good value for those who prioritize the culinary craft. Mohana Bistro appeals to food lovers who are eager to explore rich South Indian and Malay cuisine with quality ingredients, a broad range of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, and a genuine, lively atmosphere that captures the essence of Klang’s food culture.

In summary, Mohana Bistro is more than just a meal; it’s a sensory journey through traditional flavors, served in a place pulsating with local energy. It’s an ideal stop for both casual diners and devoted gourmands who relish authentic tastes paired with warm, attentive service.

One of the best restaurant in tengku klang.. Every dish is superb.. Love their thosai, mutton fried rice, paal appam.. Thr place is always packed to you might need to wait for your seat.. However, service is fast and you wont have to wait long for ur food.. The waiters are very attentive.. The ambience is noisy, mostly from the never-ending chit chat of patrons in that small place, but it brings some live to that place. And their selection of songs blasted through the space is quite enjoyable.. Overall a nice place that pleases your palate and ears.. 1st Sept 2024: came here twice this week. Was hooked with their chicken 65. The first time, ordered mutton kuzhambu, chicken 65 and fried cauliflower. Everything including the banana leaf thali set was superb. They diahed out 4 types of vege and each was nice. Second time came just for the chicken 65, mutton kozhambu and white rice. The combination was just outstanding. Even goes well with chicken curry. Had a heartiful meal. Their chicken 65 is something that standa out from others. The chicken cubes were nicely marinated and cooked to perfection. They were juicy, and succulent almost springy. Dip ot with their thovayal and the taste is elevated to the next level. Price wise, it is on the expensive side but when you take into account the taste and quality of the food served, no harm in paying more. 14.4.24- came for breakfast. Thosai came crispy and soft. The accompanying three chutneys were spot on. Add a layer of chicken curry and the taste was elevated. Their nasi lemak was a bit down though. There was no oomph in the sambal and the rice was definitely not infused with coconut milk. The rice lacked the iconic pandan and creamy taste.

I recently visited Mohana Bistro and had a mixed experience. We tried the vegetarian meal, and the veg chicken was absolutely superb – definitely a 5/5 for that dish. I also ordered the cheese naan, but the cheese was barely there, making it hard to distinguish from plain naan – I’d rate it 2/5. The paneer butter masala was a bit on the sweeter side, so I’ll give it a 3/5. The snacks, karipap and kara bondah, were quite enjoyable, especially with the sambar and chutney. A big shoutout to the staff (an anna, not sure of his name) who went out of his way to bring us the sambar and chutney at our table at the back. His effort truly stood out, and I’d give him a well-deserved 5/5. The bru coffee was nice as well, but I’d recommend asking for less sugar if you’re not into sweet drinks – I’d rate it 4/5. However, the pricing was a letdown, especially for the paneer butter masala, which felt overpriced for the portion size. I’d give the pricing 2/5. The atmosphere was another downside – it was very crowded, cramped, and hard to get a table since I went on a Sunday evening. We also had to wait quite a while for the waiter to take our order. Overall, the food and service had their highlights, but the pricing and atmosphere pulled the experience down. I’d give it a 3/5 overall.

We came here for lunch last week, and it was an excellent experience overall. The food, service, and atmosphere were all fantastic. They served a lot of side dishes, which really added variety and value to the meal. The highlight for me was definitely the Bru cow milk coffee which is rich, creamy, and a must try for coffee lovers! Although the prices are a bit on the higher side, the quality of the food and the great dining experience make it worth it. Highly recommended!
